At Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy we offer an exciting curriculum that is designed to ensure that every child develops the ambition to achieve and excel in English and Numeracy and to develop their unique talents. We firmly believe in developing the whole child and our curriculum demonstrates our commitment to both academic and wellbeing development. Millfield has established links with both UK and international universities and these links enable Millfield to be an active participant in educational research. This ensures that the teachers at Millfield are using the latest research backed approaches to teaching and learning. This results in above national outcomes and rates of progress across the school.
The learning environment has been transformed over the last few years and is engaging and stimulating. The children are rightly proud of their school and this is shown through their consistently good levels of behaviour in and outside of the classroom. Through these high expectations of the school and themselves, children make the right choices, work hard and have high aspirations for their future. Children in Key Stage 2 take on many roles and responsibilities to support their peers and enhance the school further.
A rich and diverse range of learning opportunities within and outside the school ensures that children are excited about their learning. Every child has the opportunity to go on two residential visits during their time at Millfield which further enhances their independence.
At Millfield we strongly believe in collaborative work and partnership. Our 16 Day Books give parents the opportunity to really get involved in their child’s learning and are greatly valued by teachers, children and parents. This collaboration extends to workshops, drop in sessions and opportunities to share in children’s learning and achievements.
Children have lots of opportunities to participate in enrichment activities and sporting competitions. We compete against schools on a local, district and county level. We are very proud of the children’s approach to competitive sport, in a range of traditional and non-traditional sports and the characteristics this builds and develops.
Mr P Wood, Headteacher
The report is full of praise for the school’s work to support pupils’ development inside and outside the classroom, including feedback from one parent that ‘Millfield is a fantastic school where children are put first’. This was described as a ‘typical’ comment from parents at the school.
These are for a range of curriculum subjects and areas. The Routes to Resilience award is for recognising and developing a range of characteristics which we develop in children to help them in their learning now but also in the next stage of their education and into their adult life.
Millfield is a fantastic place for children to learn and we are proud of our outcomes for all children at all phases. If you require any further information, which you cannot find on our website, please contact the school office who will be happy to help you.
Year 2 has been exploring the amazing work of artist Chris Kenny, who creates sculptures from found materials! They`ve made their own 3D sculpture using sticks and straws. How cool is that? 🌿✨ #ArtInNature

In EYFS, the children have been learning about life cycles. They have been making butterflies out of dried pasta. In Maths, they have been investigating odd and even numbers. They even had a clipboard challenge: find the words around the classroom which was all about Spring and animals.

In Year Three, the children are growing in confidence and showing real pride in their learning. This year is an important one for them as they work through their assessments, and they always try their very best. Their enthusiasm shines through in every lesson, and one of their greatest strengths is their reading — they approach books with curiosity, focus, and a genuine love for stories.
